GOD IS IN CONTROLI have a plaque in my office that reads thus – “God is in control.” Some of us have better wall decorations that read better than what I have to reassure us that God is with us; therefore, we should not be afraid. Yet we fear. I want to encourage you to take the bull by the horn and never allow fear to rob you of your joy and great achievements for this year and beyond. Let me start by saying that most of what you fear or worry about is unnecessary. Most of us worry unnecessarily about too many things. Some of us ever search for what to worry about. The trouble is that much of what we worry about is baseless and simply not there. A scientific statistic was published about worry and the finding will make one wonder how we let the devil in to torment us. It is said that 40% of all things we worry about never come to pass. 30% of all our worries involve past decisions that cannot be changed. We worry about how we just prayed publicly whether we did well or not; how we answered question during our Sunday Bible Study; how the sermon we preached was perceived by the congregation etc. 12% of our worries focus on criticism from others who spoke about us (because they felt inferior). 10% are related to our health which gets worse when we worry. Only 8% of our worries could be described as “legitimate” causes for concern. In other words, fewer that one problem in every ten that we worry about is a real concern. All the others are things that we can learn to see differently or eliminate. As Christians, to worry even on one problem out of ten is considered too many. We have Jesus who is the answer to all our problems. Remember the song “What a friend we have in Jesus.” All the stanzas are deep with messages but see the third stanza that says:Are we weak and heavy laden,Cumbered with a load of care?Precious Saviour, still our refugeTake it to the Lord in PrayerDo your friends despise, forsake thee?Take it to the Lord in prayer In His arms He‘ll take and shield theeThou wilt find a solace there.
